The Indian silk industry is very dynamic as it is the only country in the world which produces all commercial variety of silk namely Tassar, Muga, Eri and Mulberry. Silk produced in India has its own uniqueness in terms of better strength, ability to absorb dyes, ruggedness, brightness and lustre, fall, feel drape etc.

The Indian silk is unique not only because it has distinguished and distinct characters when compared to silk from other countries but also due to the fact that the processes and technologies used are different and varied from cluster to cluster. The variety and diversity in these clusters have resulted because of weaving styles, patterns of designs, accessories and equipment’s used, technology employed skill levels preference for designs and motives, colour combination etc.
