Celebration of 76th Independence Day of India

 

The 76th Independence Day of India was celebrated in Melbourne on 15 August, 2022 with great fervor. The celebrations this year are a part of the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ initiative of the Government of India to commemorate 75 years of Independence through numerous activities and events.

2. Consul General Dr. Sushil Kumar unfurled the National Flag at the Consulate and read out excerpts of the Hon’ble President of India’s message on the occasion. With participation of about 300 members of Indian diaspora as well as several cultural performances including ‘Bhangra’ dance on Dhol made the celebrations colorful. Enthusiatic participation of Indian diaspora in the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign showcased their love and respect for Indian Flag.

3. Consul General also hosted a Reception on this momentous occasion on 16 August for friends of India which was attended by about 200 guests. Welcoming the dignitaries, Consul General noted the remarkable progress made in multi-faceted relationships between the two countries.

4. Hon. Ms. Katie Hall, Victorian MP, representing the Premier lauded Indian diaspora for their contribution to the State of Victoria, and Australia as a whole. The Leader of Opposition Hon. Mr. Mathew Guy spoke on growing partnership between the two countries . Hon. Ms. Pauline Richards, Senator Hon. Ms. Kaushalya Vaghela and Emergency Chief Commissioner Mr. Andrew Crisp were amongst the other dignitaries.
